Minimally invasive surgery
Dr. Vincenzo Langerame
The introduction and development of percutaneous minimally invasive techniques have revolutionized the approach to surgical solution of hallux valgus. Today they are the most suitable method for prevention, like in first stages deformity, but also to treat the deformities occur in older subjects.
In the past the surgical techniques were particularly limited, because the aim was re-tensioning the soft parts, without correcting bone deformities. The recurrence was very frequent, and even the post-operative pain was very high; the young patients therefore preferred to avoid to surgery, being content to control the deformity itself with silicone spacers or other materials.
